The re-signing continues with the back row

First XV // Tuesday 20th June 2023

Director of Rugby, Adam Balding is pleased to announce the re-signing of 3 back row players who each made their mark last season.

Suvwe Obano joined us from Nottingham last season and immediately made an impact scoring a try against Chinnor in September. A promising season was then cut short by a serious injury picked up in November shortly after scoring his second try for the club against Rosslyn Park, having made eight appearances.

Suvwe is now back to fitness and we look forward to seeing him use his marauding ball carrying skills and add to his try tally next season.

The second back rower to be announced is young senior academy player Jack English, Jack made the most of the opportunities available to him last season with 12 appearances. Such was the quality of his game that he picked up the coaches Most Improved Player Award. Jack will be looking to build on his success last season.

Another player to make the most of his appearances in a season cut short by injury is Batsirai Zindi. An out and out number 7 he is a fly half’s worst nightmare using his speed off set piece and breakdown to disrupt opposition attacks, with a ferocious tackle technique. Taking to the field on 8 occasions Batsirai crossing the whitewash 3 times with tries against Chinnor, Hull and Cambridge.

Adam Balding said of the players:

The back row is certainly fiercely contested again this season,

Retaining a player of Suvwe’s calibre and experience is a real coupe for the squad, a huge personality both on and off the field whilst bringing energy and real physicality to all that he does, equally comfortable at flanker or No8 we believe that the best is still yet to come from him having now made a full recovery from what was such a serious injury sustained pre-Christmas. We are all looking forward to seeing him back playing in a Birmingham Moseley shirt.

Jack burst onto the scene having worked extremely hard coming through the developmental pathway within the clubs setup, working directly with Moseley Oak under the guidance of Dan Lavander Jack had certainly been on the fringes of the first team for a while. Jacks style of play is unique and he underpins everything through extremely high work rate, for a young man his physicality and game understanding gives him such an exciting future within the game.

Pat Zindi  has been ever present since joining us in the 2021-22 season, offering something very different across the back row whilst showcasing his dominance and effectiveness in and around the tackle area. His style of play is both explosive and extremely dynamic in all that he does both sides of the football. The huge strength that Pat brings to the squad is his level of professionalism and high standards he sets both on and off the field of play.
