Chinnor

by David Lawrence – Birmingham Mail

Moseley chief Adam Balding questioned his team’s temperament in allowing visitors Chinnor to wrap up a bonus point victory at Billesley Common.

The home side recovered from conceding two early tries to lead 19-13 at the break only for the Oxfordshire outfit to run out winners thanks to a determined second half effort.

Balding said: “Full credit to Chinnor, they had a stellar result against Rosslyn Park last week and they play a simple game – direct and no frills. They were worthy of the bonus point.

“We had a crazy 12 to 15 minutes in the second half which didn’t help when we allowed them to get away from us. We lost our composure and we had spoken about our temperament and emotions all week. You can’t allow your frustrations to impact what goes on out on the pitch and it ended up with us giving them two very soft tries.

“As a 20 I thought we performed well but for me it was our temperament and the emotional side of things. We have to be measured and keep our house in order.”

Front row pair Mark Darlington and Josh McNulty bagged Chinnor’s early tries and the latter – brother of Moseley’s Sam and Isaac – went on to dominate the game, capping an impressive all-round display with a hat-trick with scrum-half Charles James-Carter claiming their fifth.

For Moseley, centre Elliott Creed bagged two of their first half scores with the other coming from Sam McNulty. Rob Knox claimed the bonus point try early in the second period with his side down to 14 men following scrum-half Matt Marsh’s yellow card for dissent.

Dan Lewis kicked three conversions and a penalty while Chinnor’s Nick Smith slotted over three conversions and two penalties.

Moseley’s director of rugby added: “We need to recover quickly now for our trip to Hull. They have still to record a win and we can’t be the first team that they beat. We have three massive games now with Hull and then Stortford and Cinderford at home. We need to get points from all three.”
