RFU President to visit for Blackheath game

The Board of Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club are pleased to welcome the current RFU President His Honour Jeff Blackett as their guest for the home game against Blackheath on Saturday 11th September

HH Jeff Blackett became President of the Rugby Football Union for the 2020/21 season on 12 June 2020, replacing outgoing President Peter Wheeler. Due to the extraordinary situation caused by COVID-19, at the 2021 AGM the RFU members re-elected him and the Presidential team for the 2021/22 season in order to provide stability to the RFU.

His roles in rugby have included being Treasurer, Chairman and President of US Portsmouth; Treasurer, Selector and Chairman for the Royal Navy Rugby Union and their representative on the RFU Council from 2000 to 2004.

He was then co-opted to Council as Disciplinary Officer from 2003-13, was Chairman of Governance from 2014-16, Chairman of the Professional Game Board from 2016-18 and served on the RFU Board of Directors from 2014-18.

Jeff first played rugby at Portsmouth Grammar School and went on to play for University College London, University of London Union, US Portsmouth, the Royal Navy, Hampshire and St Anne’s and St John’s Oxford.

A barrister, he retired from a distinguished career with the Royal Navy in the rank of Commodore and was Judge Advocate General from 2004-20.

He and his wife Sally have two children, Will and Sophie, and three grandchildren.
