Following recent announcements of a significant physical presence up front being signed for the new season it’s time to add some speed to the equation.
Director of Rugby Adam Balding is pleased to confirm the signing of full back Tom Benjamin from Nottingham. Tom came through the Nottingham Academy before moving to Cardiff Metropolitan University where he excelled as part of their BUCS Super League team. Upon returning to Nottingham for the 2019/20 season Tom gained Championship rugby experience as well as guesting for Leicester Tigers Development XV. A player with genuine pace and good footwork Tom will provide some excitement with ball in hand.
Competing with Tom for the number 15 jersey is Harry O’Brien. Harry joined the club for the 2019/20 season and had limited opportunities through the shortened season and injury to establish his challenge for a starting place in the team. Harry reads the game extremely well and will relish the competition at no15.
The third signing announced today may have some say in who gets the 15 jersey as Sam Pointon looks to start his fourth season for the club. So versatile is Sam he can play equally as well on the wing and scrum half as he can at full back, giving coaches a real challenge to decide where to utilise is talents. Sam will be looking to add to his 48 appearances to date following the 2019/20 season when frustratingly he had just returned from a significant injury as the season was prematurely curtailed. A player of impressive speed and finishing ability we can be certain he will waste no time re-establishing himself as a key member of the team.
