Moseley Roar into Play-Off Reckoning – Archie Yoxall

A huge Billesley Common crowd of 1,200+, swelled by a superb travelling contingent from Luctonians, were treated to a commanding home performance as Moseley booked their place into the next round of the National One play-offs in emphatic fashion.

The hosts were out of the blocks quickly and on the scoreboard inside the opening minutes, a well-worked attack finished off close to the posts and the conversion duly added to make it 7-0. Luctonians struggled to find any rhythm against a dominant home pack, and Moseley extended their advantage ten minutes later with a second try, again improved off the tee.

The visitors could find no foothold and at around 25 minutes Moseley had a third, the boot stretching the lead to 21-0 and threatening to put the contest beyond reach before the interval. Luctonians, to their credit, refused to roll over and finally got on the scoreboard with not much of the half remaining, restoring some hope before the break at 21-5.

Whatever was said in the changing rooms at the interval had the desired effect. Within two minutes of the restart Moseley had their bonus point try and the floodgates began to creak. A penalty extended the lead before three further tries came in the latter stages of the second half turned a contest into a procession, the scoreboard reading 50-5 by the hour mark.

Moseley showed no inclination to ease off. A penalty from Mose was returned with two unconverted tries from the travelling side. Moseley then took it over the line one final time and converted, leaving the game at 60-15.

A superb shift from the boys, with some huge hits laying the platform and the backline carrying with intent every time the ball was moved wide. Attention now turns to Oundle next weekend, fresh from edging Tynedale 29-20.
